Today the Mineral Haiku arrived in Cow Bay from Roberts Bank. As you can see from the picture below its riding very low in the water.
Why because its at  93% of its loading capacity and here it anchored for 6 days before returning to Roberts Bank to load the remaining coal.
Someone, the owner or Roberts Bank, is on the hook to cover the transit costs here and back to Roberts Bank, Pilot costs, plus the cost of maintain the ship and its crew before it can depart.  NOT AN EFFICIENT OPERATION.

Coal Update

Here’s an update to what I have been up to regarding the shipping of American coal.  Hope you find it encouraging, and spread the word.

On March 20, just after the Westshore Terminals Annual Report was released, I sent out 3 letters: one to ECCC Minister Catherine McKenna,
one to Transport Canada (TC) Minister Marc Garneau, and one to B.C. Minister of Environment and Climate Change Strategy George Heyman.
The letters asked fairly simple questions.  I did hear from BC Ministry of Finance answering my question regarding whether or not these ships pay carbon tax on the fuel they burn, and it appears that they do not pay carbon tax.

As of June 18, I had not heard from ECCC or TC (I still have had no response), so I sent the following letter to our MP Alistair McGregor:

The Honourable Alistair MacGregor
House of Commons
Ottawa, Ontario
K1A 0A6

Dear Alistair McGregor

On February 15 I had published the following Op-Ed in the Vancouver Sun voicing our concerns regarding the contentious issue of shipping dirty American coal through Canada. https://vancouversun.com/opinion/op-ed/james-kerr-canada-should-not-be-shipping-coal-overseas-for-the-u-s   The article is self explanatory regarding our concerns and pointing our the hypocritical practices and policies of our present government.

As a follow-up to this article, I sent the attached letters to Environment and Climate Change Minister Catherine McKenna and Transport Minister Marc Garneau drawing attention to these issues and asking responses to rather simple questions.  To date I have not heard response from either office.

It would be appreciated if you could, first of all, read my article in the Sun and the attached letters.  If you agree that these issues need to be addressed by the government, it would be appreciated if you could raise these issues or send follow-up letters on my behalf.

I thank you in advance.
