Here are pictures of a freighter the Orange Truth in Trincomali Channel off Shingle Point Lyackson (Valdes) Island yesterday, it has two unmanned longlines and one trap line hung from the back of the vessel. I tried reporting the longlines to the R.A.P.P hotline as it’s illegal to leave any non-commercial long lines or fishing lines unmanned but got no answer and no response to the message I left. As well another major bio security breach is the use of foreign traps and bait in our waters this could very easily lead to the outbreak of invasive species if the bait is not processed or the traps could transport various organisms into our waters.

I was in Cowichan Bay on September 17, 2017 around 3pm fishing chinook salmon at the Cowichan river mouth at the bottom of Tzouhalem Mountain (Skinner Point) when I observed this freighter drive into the bay passing two other freighters already anchored in Satellite Channel spraying water out of its anchor ports and then anchored 1km or less from the river mouth, the shoreline and a school of chinook salmon waiting and changing their osmoregulation before they can make the journey upriver to spawn. As well they anchored on top of a frequently used crab and/or prawn fishing area.
